How to Use the Self-Impression (S-IS) Kit
This important first step is how Sportsguard Laboratories will get a impression of your teeth from which we will make your custom fit mouthguard from.
After completing these instructions, you will have a dental mold that will be returned to us, using the provided pre-paid shipping box (U.S. Customers Only). From your impression, a form-fitting mouthguard will be produced and shipped back to you. You should receive your mouthguard in 2 – 3 weeks. If you have questions or problems, please contact customer service.
IMPORTANT: Please place the Impression Putty in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before starting the impression process. Do not use with braces, removable dental appliances, or loose teeth. Do not use if room temperature is greater than 80° F (25° C).
CAUTION: Exercise caution when boiling water. Adult supervision is recommended for children under 18 years of age.
Note: For lower jaw impressions please flip mouthguard tray to make impression.

Step 1
Have the athlete try on the mouthguard tray. If the tray is too long, trim with scissors using the slots in the tray.

Step 2
Bring water to a boil, then remove from heat. Place the dental tray in the hot water for 30 seconds.

Step 3
Rinse in cool water for
one second.

Step 4
Place in mouth and bite down firmly. Use your fingers to push the tray against your teeth and gums. Remove tray and rinse in cold water.

Step 5
After the tray completely dries, open the two colored impression putty and knead the two putties together until they become a uniform color (approx 30 sec).

Step 6
After kneading, roll the putty into a sausage shape and place enough material into the tray to fill it.

Step 7
Place the tray with putty upside down into mouth and bite down firmly until you contact the tray. Pull your lips over the front of the tray. Hold in mouth until the putty becomes firm (approx 2 1/2 - 3 min).

Step 8
Remove from mouth. A good impression should include all the teeth and extend to the gum tissue above the teeth. If impression of teeth does not look sufficient contact us.

Step 9
Rinse in warm water. Once completely set (approx 5 min), return it back to the bag. Place into the labeled box and mail.
All of the Sportsguard Mouthguards utilize PolyShok™ high performance polymer technology.
PolyShok™ is a proprietary blend of plastic designed specifically for athletic mouthguards. It has the unique properties of being able to form to the mouth at low temperatures. This means, the mouthguard is softer, resulting in greater comfort, better breathability and absorbing more destructive force.
PolyShok™ has been A.S.T.M. (American Standards in Testing and Measurements) tested to be over 150% more shock absorbent than leading traditional mouthguard (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate) materials. These results are reproducible in any A.S.T.M. certified lab in the country. Ultimately PolyShok™ transmits less pressure to the teeth, jaw and brain when it receives a concussive blow, better than other athletic mouthguards.
